Deputy Principal’s Message

Hello Spring!

Weather is warming up and we are excited to be able to spend more time outdoors. Term 4 finds us having more frequent whole school assemblies, as well as taking the learning outdoors. Many times, a class will be reading outside, doing sport, having a picnic or doing some art. The benefits of nature are amazing to say the least!

Art Show 2017

Wow is all we had to say with this year’s multicultural art show. It was a showcase of talent, food, art and culture. The students were so proud of their art work; we even had mini tour guides showing families around. The dance performances and cultural food was surely a delight. Thank you for the Sirius EMP events hub teachers and also Mrs. Fisun Ergun, our art teacher, for her dedication and passion for the art department. It is great to see our art and music departments grow!

D.E.A.R

We have seen the love of reading really come through this year with our D.E.A.R (Drop Everything and Read) Program. Students have protected time to read every day for 15 minutes after recess. This had made a great impact on ‘reading for enjoyment’ skills in our students!

Sun Smart

Our Term 1 and 4 Sun Smart Policy is that ALL students must wear a Sirius College school hat while engaging in play in the outdoors. Compared with adults, children are more vulnerable to the harmful effects of UV radiation and have less capacity to make informed decisions. Children rely on adults to provide resources and reminders for sun protection, especially as UV radiation peaks during school hours (noon). Please ensure your child has a school hat at school every day. Although we encourage NO HAT NO PLAY, we know the benefits of play for students. If students have no hats, we ask them to play in the shade.
